I came across a new term “Dead Dropping” (well new for me) today in the newspaper in one article related to the recent Hyderabad bomb blast (though it has been used since as early as Jan 2006). What makes police hard to identify and track the groups involved in such terror acts is a simple but clever technique which they use to communicate among themselves. Dead dropping practice involves creating a common email account and saving a mail with the information to be passed in the draft folder instead of sending. The receiver can login with the common user name and the password and read the draft and get the info. As no email is actually sent, nothing can be traced. Human mind is indeed adaptive, and is able to make the best out of the available resources.
